Why can't I submit my site for free anymore?
In our ongoing effort to 1) build a useful, comprehensive web directory
and 2) address the needs of people submitting sites to the directory, we
have expanded our fee-based Business Express program to cover all
submissions to our main commercial categories: "Business and
Economy/Business to Business" and "Business and Economy/Shopping and
Services."
Over a year ago we launched an optional version of Business Express to
offer commercial sites a fee-based submission option that guaranteed
review within seven business days. The program has been a success, and our
experience with it confirms that Business Express benefits the quality and
comprehensiveness of the commercial directory and addresses the
needs of businesses submitting to the directory.
We have now expanded the Business Express program to cover all submissions
to our main commercial categories. By charging a fee, we are able to
dedicate sustained resources to an expansion of the commercial directory.
Moreover, any site submitted to these areas will be reviewed and either
added or denied within seven business days. If your site is denied, you
will be told why and will have a chance to appeal the decision.
Why must I pay to submit my site now, when before it was free?
The Business Express fee allows us to dedicate sustained resources to an
expansion of the commercial directory and guarantees that any site
submitted to these areas will be reviewed and either added or denied
within seven business days.
Prior to our Business Express program, users submitting to the commercial
areas of our directory were not guaranteed a timely response. Now, by
focusing dedicated resources to the review of business submissions
(something we can do by charging a fee), we are able to 1) guarantee a
review and reply within seven days, and 2) build a better, more
comprehensive directory of commercial sites.
Why can you guarantee to review my site now when you couldn't review it
before?
Business Express has existed in a limited capacity within the Yahoo!
directory for a number of years. We've offered the service long enough to
know what resources are necessary to expand and sustain it. Given the
proven success of this fee-based review process, we are confident that
we'll be able to visit and evaluate every site that is submitted through
the Business Express process.
Is Yahoo! going to start charging for all listings in its directory
now?
No. First, Yahoo! does not charge for any listings in the directory. We
only charge for the expedited review of sites submitted to our primary
commercial categories.
Second, the goal of the Business Express program is to guarantee sustained
growth and quality within the commercial areas of our directory.
Work in the rest of the Yahoo! directory (the non-commercial areas)
continues as always: a strong editorial effort to aggregate, organize, and
present a comprehensive array of sites on any topic imaginable, to a wide
and growing audience. And in that effort, we continue to welcome
suggestions for new site additions through our free submission process.
Why does it cost $199 to submit my site?
The Business Express fee covers our cost of providing an expedited and
guaranteed review service. We acknowledge that this service may not be for
everyone, and we respect your choice not to participate. The price for
this service is competitive across the market.
I submitted my site a while ago and never heard back. Now do I have to
pay to resubmit my site?
Yes. When you suggested your site through the old, standard submission
process, we did not have the resources to guarantee a review of every site
submitted. With the expansion of the Business Express program, we can now
guarantee a review of your site. Now, when you pay to resubmit your site,
you will hear back from us within seven business days.
