Jerry Yang - Co-Founder, Chief Yahoo and Director Jerry Yang, a Taiwanese native raised in San Jose, Calif., co-created
the Yahoo! Internet navigational guide in April 1994 with David Filo and
co-founded Yahoo! Inc. in April 1995. Yang, a leading force in the media
industry, has been instrumental in building Yahoo! into the world's most
highly trafficked Web site and one of the Internet's most recognized brands.
A member of Yahoo!'s board of directors, Yang works closely with the company's
president and CEO to develop corporate business strategies and guide the future
direction of the company. Yang holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering
from Stanford University and is currently on a leave of absence from Stanford's
electrical engineering Ph.D. program.
David Filo - Co-Founder and Chief Yahoo David Filo,
a native of Moss Bluff, La., co-created the Yahoo! Internet navigational guide
in April 1994 with Jerry Yang and co-founded Yahoo! Inc. in April 1995. Filo
serves as a key technologist, directing the technical operations behind the
company's global network of Web properties. He is credited with helping build
Yahoo! into the world's most highly trafficked Web site and one of the Internet's
most recognized brands. Filo holds a B.S. degree in computer engineering from
Tulane University and an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford
University. He is currently on a leave of absence from Stanford's electrical
engineering Ph.D. program.
Terry Semel - Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Director Terry Semel
is the chairman and chief executive officer of Yahoo! Inc. Semel is focused on providing the
strategy and vision that will enable Yahoo! to become the Internet’s leading global consumer
and business services company. A globally-respected media and entertainment executive, Semel
was named Yahoo!’s chairman and CEO in May 2001. Previously, Semel spent 24 years at Warner
Bros., most noted for his role as chairman and co-chief executive officer where he and his
partner, Robert Daly, helped build Warner Bros. into one of the world’s largest and most
creative media and entertainment enterprises. Like Yahoo!, Warner Bros. reaches billions of
worldwide consumers through its vast stable of properties. Semel is credited with building
Warner Bros. from a single revenue source generating less than $1 billion to nearly $11 billion
total revenues from multiple, diverse businesses in 50 countries. Prior to Warner Bros., Semel
was president of Walt Disney’s Theatrical Distribution division and previously was president of
CBS’ Theatrical Distribution division. Semel is currently on the Board of Directors of Polo Ralph
Lauren Corporation, Revlon, Inc. and the Guggenheim Museum.
Jeff Mallett - President, Chief Operating Officer and Director
Jeff Mallett joined Yahoo! in 1995 as the executive responsible for establishing, operating
and leading Yahoo!'s worldwide organization. As its president and chief operating officer,
he is recognized as being instrumental in taking Yahoo! from a start-up to a pre-eminent
global Internet communications, commerce, and media company. Prior to Yahoo!, Mallett was
vice president and general manager of Novell's worldwide consumer division, responsible for
all facets of the business including product development, strategic relations and marketing
communications. He founded WordPerfect's consumer division in 1993. Under his direction,
the division successfully launched the line in more than 14 countries with retail distribution
reaching 8,000 retail outlets worldwide and developed OEM relationships with Hewlett-Packard,
AST and Compaq. Before Novell, Mallett was vice president and a founding executive team member
of Reference Software, which was acquired by WordPerfect Corp. in 1992. He was also a founder
and director of IPT Corp., a private telecommunications company that was acquired by Cable
and Wireless in 1987.
Gregory Coleman - Executive Vice President, North American
Operations A seasoned executive with nearly 25 years of media experience,
Gregory Coleman is a key member of Yahoo!'s management team and is responsible for driving
Yahoo!'s overall business operations in North America. He oversees the sales, marketing
and client services organizations, as well as manage all of Yahoo!'s consumer services
and programming initiatives. Coleman was most recently senior vice president of Reader's
Digest Association and president of U.S. Magazine Publishing. He was responsible for the
company's stable of magazine properties, including Reader's Digest, the largest magazine
in the United States and in the world. In this role, he oversaw all advertising, circulation,
production, customer service, and financial initiatives for the magazine division. Before
becoming the president of U.S. Magazines, Coleman served as vice president and worldwide
publisher of Reader's Digest, directing business for the 48 editions of Reader's Digest
published in 19 languages. Previously, at CBS, Inc., he spent 10 years leading advertising
efforts for Woman's Day as vice president and national sales manager. Coleman holds a B.S.
degree in business administration from Georgetown University and attended the M.B.A. program
at New York University.
Farzad Nazem - Chief Technical Officer and Senior Vice
President of Communication Services Farzad Nazem joined Yahoo! in early
1996 as senior vice president of engineering and surfing and was named chief technical
officer in January 1997. He is responsible for overseeing all areas of engineering,
including site operations and product development. Nazem has more than 18 years of experience
in executive and technical positions. Prior to Yahoo!, he was vice president of Oracle
Corporation's Media and Web Server Division. Previously, Nazem held various technical
positions for SYDIS, Inc. and Rolm Corporation. He holds a B.S. degree in Computer
Science from California Polytechnic State University.
Susan Decker - Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance &
Administration Susan Decker is Yahoo!'s chief financial officer and
senior vice president of finance and administration. Prior to joining Yahoo! in June
2000, Decker had been employed by Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ) since 1986; most
recently, she served as the global head of research where she was instrumental in building
DLJ's global business. In her previous role as a publishing and advertising research analyst,
she provided coverage to institutional investors and conducted corporate finance work for
more than 30 media companies. In January 2000, she was appointed to Financial Accounting
Standards Advisory Council by the Trustees of the Financial Accounting Federation.
She also received the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) in 1989. Decker
holds a B.S. degree from Tufts University, with a double major in computer science and
economics and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Timothy Brady - Senior Vice President, Network and Commerce
Services Tim Brady oversees production for a number of Yahoo!
properties worldwide. As Yahoo!'s third employee, Brady initially played a key
role in managing the marketing, operations and business development activities
to launch Yahoo! commercially. Prior to joining Yahoo! in 1995, Brady was with
Motorola's Semiconductor Division in Tokyo as product marketing manager of the
16-bit microcontroller product line. In this role, he managed the introduction
of the product line in Japan, overseeing business development, public relations,
and custom product development. Under his direction, the 16-bit microcontroller
product line in Japan was built into a $6 million dollar business. Brady holds
a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A.
from Harvard.
Jim Brock - Senior Vice President, Major Initiatives Jim Brock joined Yahoo! in February 2001 as the senior vice president
of major initiatives. In this newly-created role, Brock works with the Yahoo!
management team to evaluate and drive the company's long-term strategic initiatives.
Prior to joining Yahoo!, Brock was a partner with Venture Law Group (VLG), a leading
Silicon Valley technology law firm, where he led the firm's Internet practice.
At VLG, Brock served as principal outside counsel to Yahoo! from the time of
company's founding in 1995. In this capacity, he worked closely with Yahoo!'s
management team on its initial public offering and on many subsequent strategic
transactions. Brock also provided counsel to pioneering Internet companies,
including Hotmail, LinkExchange, Silicon Investor and eToys. In November 1998,
Brock co-founded Amicus, a private advisory and investment firm whose portfolio
included AvantGo, eGroups, exp.com, On24, Tucows, when.com and Vividence. Brock
holds a B.A. degree in economics with honors from Claremont McKenna College and a
J.D.degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
David Graves - Senior Vice President, Media and Leisure David Graves has served as senior vice president of Media and Leisure
since January 2001. From December 1994 to January 2001, Graves held various
executive positions, most recently as president of Reuters Media Americas,
which provides multimedia news and data to newspapers, TV, cable and Internet
sites from its parent company Reuters PLC, a leading global information company.
Prior to that, from July 1990 to December 1994, Graves served as the founding
president of AdValue Media Technologies, a company serving major advertising
agencies and television stations which was acquired by Reuters. Prior to 1990,
Graves held senior positions at Westinghouse Broadcasting (now CBS), including
vice president strategic planning and vice president and general manager of
all news KFWB Radio in Los Angeles. Graves holds a B.A. degree from Dartmouth
College.
Ellen Siminoff - Senior Vice President, Entertainment and Small
Business A seasoned business executive, Ellen Siminoff is
responsible for overseeing and guiding all of Yahoo!'s entertainment and small
business initiatives. As the head of these business units, she is responsible
for the management and direction of a wide range of Yahoo! properties, including
Yahoo! Music, Yahoo! Classifieds and Yahoo! Small Business. Prior to this role,
Siminoff lead the company's corporate and business development activities, and
was responsible for initiating and negotiating strategic agreements, investments
and partnerships. A Yahoo! employee since 1996, she has been instrumental in managing
the company's relationships with key partners. Prior to joining Yahoo! in 1996, Siminoff
worked at the Los Angeles Times where she helped create and manage both CareerPath.com
and LATimes.com. Previously, Siminoff spent almost three years between Eastern Europe
and the United States, as a co-founder of EastNet, an emerging market media barter
syndicate. Siminoff traveled more than a half million miles in her quest to develop
Eastern and Central Europe as a liquid marketplace for trade, and through her company,
distributed television programming to these markets. Siminoff holds a B.A. degree in
economics from Princeton University and received her M.B.A. from Stanford University.
Jon Sobel - Vice President, General Counsel and
Secretary As Yahoo!'s general counsel, Jon Sobel is responsible
for the management of the company's legal affairs and the direction of the
company's legal strategy, as well as its worldwide public policy and government
relations. An attorney for more than a decade, Sobel was promoted to the company's
general counsel after serving as the associate general counsel since 1999. In this
capacity, he managed a team of legal professionals who were instrumental in handling
the company's issues related to litigation, patent protection, compliance and abuse,
and public policy. Sobel also played a key role in negotiating many of Yahoo!'s technology
deals and strategic alliances. Prior to joining Yahoo! in 1998, Sobel was associate general
counsel for Electronics for Imaging Inc. and Chips and Technologies, Inc. From 1990 through
1996, he was a litigation attorney in private practice, representing a wide range of clients
from diverse industries. Sobel holds an A.B. degree in public policy with honors from Princeton
University and a J.D. degree with honors from the University of Michigan Law School. Sobel has
spoken on a number of legal-related topics, including intellectual property, privacy and strategic
alliances for organizations such as The Practicing Law Institute and a variety of other continuing
legal education programs.
Tim Koogle - Vice Chairman and Director Tim Koogle (“TK”) was
president and CEO of Yahoo! Inc. from 1995 to May 2001 and now holds the vice chairman
position on Yahoo!’s Board of Directors. Under his leadership as CEO and chairman, a role
he assumed in 1999, he helped build Yahoo! into a leading Internet media company with
annual net revenues of more than one billion dollars. During his tenure, BusinessWeek
named him one of “The Top 25 Executives of the Year” in 1999 and 2000. Prior to Yahoo!,
Koogle was president of Intermec Corporation, where annual sales increased nearly 50 percent
to more than $300 million during his three-year leadership. Koogle also served as corporate
vice president of Intermec’s parent company, Western Atlas Inc., a multinational information
services and technology company with revenues exceeding $2.4 billion annually.
Prior to Intermec, Koogle spent nine years with Motorola where he held a number of
executive management positions in operations and corporate venture capital. Koogle
holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia and M.S.
and doctorate degrees in engineering from Stanford University. Koogle has appeared
regularly as an industry expert on key business and financially-oriented broadcast
programs such as CNBC, CNN/fn, and Fox News. Koogle is also chairman of the board of
directors for AIM, the principal worldwide trade association for the automated data
collection industry.
Eric Hippeau - Director A Yahoo! board member since
1996, Eric Hippeau is the president and executive managing director of SOFTBANK
International Ventures. In this capacity, he oversees SOFTBANK CORP. efforts to
bring Internet products and services to all countries outside of Japan and the
United States, managing investments that will exceed $2 billion shortly. Hippeau
is also non-executive chairman of the ZDNet, Inc. Board of Directors. Hippeau joined
Ziff-Davis in 1989 as Publisher of PC Magazine, was named executive vice president of
Ziff-Davis in 1990 and chief operating officer in 1991. During his career at Ziff-Davis,
Hippeau established himself as a true visionary, recognizing the trend toward the
Internet long before others. Prior to joining Ziff-Davis, Hippeau held a number of
positions with IDG, including vice president of computer publications in Latin America
and publisher of IDG's InfoWorld magazine. In addition to Yahoo!, Hippeau sits on a
number of Boards of Directors, including Global Crossing, Ltd., Asia Global Crossing,
Ltd., Electron Economy, odimo.com and Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
Arthur Kern - Director Arthur Kern has served as
a member of the Yahoo!'s Board of Directors since January 1996. Kern is
founder and chairman of American Media, which owned and operated commercial
AM and FM radio stations in the United States from 1981 to 1994 and now holds
interests in select media-related companies. From 1969 to 1986, Kern held a
variety of television station sales and general management positions with
Westinghouse Broadcasting Company (now CBS). He also serves on the Board of
Directors of Digitas, Inc., a global IT professional services firm, and is a
member of the World Presidents' Organization and Chief Executives' Organization.
Kern is a graduate of Yale University
Edward Kozel - Director Edward Kozel joined Yahoo!'s
board in October 2000. He is a managing partner of Open Range Ventures, a private
venture capital firm active in telecommunications, networking, and Internet
start-up companies. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Cisco Systems,
Inc., where he worked for 11 years in a variety of roles, including chief technology
officer and senior vice president of business development. During his tenure at Cisco,
he founded the business development group which, under his direction, was responsible
for more than 22 technology acquisitions and 25 minority investments. Kozel is an
industry innovator who previously worked at Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and SRI International,
where he participated in the early design and development of the Internetwork Protocol (IP)
model and TCP/IP, packet radio networks and highly distributed information systems. In addition
to Yahoo! and Cisco, Kozel serves on the boards of Reuters PLC, TIBCO Software, Narus,
and Telegis Networks. He graduated from the University of California, Davis with a degree
in electrical engineering.
Michael Moritz - Director Yahoo!'s first outside director, Michael
Moritz, is a partner at Sequoia Capital, the venture capital firm responsible for providing
the original financing and organization for companies, including Yahoo!, that account for
more than 20 percent of the value of the Nasdaq. He is also a director of Flextronics,
Saba Software, Google and WebVan and has also been a director of Agile Software, GlobalCenter,
LinkExchange (acquired by Microsoft), Quote.com (acquired by Lycos) and Visigenic (acquired by Inprise).
Before joining Sequoia Capital in 1986, Moritz was a founder of Technologic Partners and worked in a
variety of positions at Time Warner.
