SANTA CLARA, Calif., -- August 17, 1998 -- Looking for an easy way to manage busy academic, business, extracurricular and social schedules? Set up your own customized online calendar. Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO), today unveiled Yahoo!® Calendar (http://calendar.yahoo.com), a full-featured, Web-based personal calendar available free of charge to registered Yahoo! users. Providing a convenient way to help people organize their schedules and manage important contact information, Yahoo! "Yahoo! has created one of the Web's largest global communities by providing easy and effective ways to help people around the world to get connected to anyone and anything," said Katie Burke, senior producer at Yahoo! Manage Your Schedule Wherever You Are

With Yahoo! Calendar, individuals have convenient access to a user-friendly contact and meeting management service anywhere from any computer connected to the Internet. This enables users to quickly and easily organize and update their schedules anywhere, anytime. Other Yahoo! Calendar highlights worth keeping track of include:

  • Compatibility with Outlook and PalmPilot -- Yahoo! Calendar enables users to quickly and easily import and export data between the new service and popular personal information managers, including Microsoft Outlook and 3Com's PalmPilot and Palm III devices. With these capabilities, users can keep offline schedules updated and consistent with their online calendars.
  • Flexible Viewing Options -- Yahoo! Calendar allows individuals to input important events and view their personal calendars by day, week, month or year, providing users with multi-level organizational flexibility and efficiency to update and manage events on their schedule.
  • One-Time Registration Process -- Yahoo! Calendar uses the same, universal registration process, user identification and password as the rest of Yahoo!'s suite of communication and personalization services, including My Yahoo!, Yahoo! Chat, Yahoo! Classifieds, Yahoo! Finance Portfolios, Yahoo! Games, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Message Boards, Yahoo! Pager, and Yahoo! Travel.
  • Yahoo! Reminders -- Integrated with Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Pager, Yahoo! Calendar notifies users through email and instant messaging alerts of events scheduled on their calendars, such as birthdays, holidays and anniversaries that might otherwise be forgotten. From Yahoo! Calendar, users can easily check their email accounts as well as access Yahoo!'s network of global properties.
  • To Do List -- Helping users keep track of important tasks, Yahoo! Calendar allows users to create and update their To Do list. Using this feature, individuals can enter the task description, set the due date for completing the item and even select the priority level. Once completed, users can simply check the "done" box and the item will be deleted from the list.

In conjunction with today's launch, Yahoo! Inc. also announced that it has acquired WebCal Corporation, developer and marketer of web-based calendaring and scheduling products, and publisher of EventCal, a comprehensive database of world-wide public events. The acquisition was completed on July 17, 1998, and was accounted for as a pooling of interests.
